Frequently Asked Questions
How will anello make money with no ads?
Once we're out of beta we'll introduce anello Plus, with perks like higher rate limits and other upgrades on top of regular anello. Our plan is for free users to get the same privacy and security features as Plus, so you don't have to pay to be more secure.
Is anello open source?
Yes. The anello client source code is available on request. We don't publish it publicly because AI companies have been scraping code to train their models. Email support@anello.chat and we'll give you access to read and audit it.
Is anello really free?
Yes. Bigger uploads, custom emoji in every chat, 1080p screen sharing and unlimited servers are all free. No subscription needed.
Do I need a phone number or ID to sign up?
No. All you need is an email. No phone number, no selfies and no ID uploads, so there's no ID for anyone to leak.
Can anello read my DMs?
No. DMs are end to end encrypted, so only you and your friends can read them. We can't read them even if we wanted to.
Do you sell my data?
No. There are no ads, no ad tracking and no data sales. Your chats are for your friends, not advertisers.
How do I get in?
Anello is in closed beta and invites go out in waves. Request access with your email and we'll let you know when it's your turn.
Why not Signal, Telegram or a modded Discord client?
Signal needs a phone number and isn't built for communities. Telegram updated its privacy policy in 2024 to share phone numbers and IP addresses with authorities in response to valid legal requests. Mods change how Discord looks, not what it collects.
